Keoladeo Ghana National Park

Keoladeo Ghana National ParkAt a distance of only 176 km from the din and bustle of the city of Delhi, there is a green paradise where you will find some of the rarest and most exotic variety of birds. The proximity of this wonderful place to the city of Delhi has made it a favorite place for tourist tired of life in the city. This 28.73 sq km of wetland houses a number of exotic birds and often you will get to see some of the rarest migratory birds like the Siberian Crane. Once famous for fowl shooting, this place is now a sanctuary for the innumerable species of birds. The cacophony of the birds during the time of sunrise and sun set is wonderful.

Popularly referred to as the Bharatpur bird sanctuary, you will get more than 300 species of birds here. There are herons, saras and kingfisher. The forest also has animals like sambar, hyena, mongoose, chital and python. The beauty of the forests lies in the multicolored feather of its inhabitants. At the Python point you can see some pythons soaking the warmth of the sun.

This bird sanctuary is easily accessible from Delhi by road, rail and air. The nearest town and railway station is Bharatpur and it is only 2 km from the sanctuary. If you wish to go by air, the nearest airport is at Agra that is just 50 km away. There is no season that you can call special for visiting this bird sanctuary. You can go throughout the year and it will never cease to amaze you. Between the months of August and October, you will find a bewildering number of birds. This is the breeding season. If you intend to see the migratory birds then you should go between the months of October and February.

Accommodation in Bharatpur is never a problem. It is well geared up to meet the requirements of a large number of tourist. There are plenty of forest rest houses, tourist bungalows and lodges to take care of all the you need to make your stay a happy and memorable one.
